1988-2012... 24 years of purrs... 24 years of purpose...
Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation, and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach programs.

Good Mews is one of the few virtually cage-free, no-kill cat shelters in the State of Georgia. Since 1988, Good Mews has placed approximately 5,000 cats in permanent homes. The shelter receives no government support, relying solely on donations of time, service and money from its supporters, the public and area businesses. Good Mews is home to approximately 100 residents at any given time, most of whom live at the shelter; some also reside in foster care. We have an average adoption rate of approximately 5 cats per week.

Good Mews provides our residents with regular meals and extensive medical care. The only time our cats are caged is for medical observation and a two week quarantine period upon arrival to the shelter. Once a cat has been accepted into the shelter population, it has a home for life. No cat is ever euthanized to make room for another, and is performed ONLY when a veterinarian has diagnosed that the cat’s quality of life is severely and permanently compromised by sickness or injury.
Our cats come to us from a variety of circumstances. Many of our residents arrive abused, neglected and terribly afraid. Often times, these cats are in urgent need of medical care. During recuperation, our dedicated staff of volunteers spend countless hours cuddling and grooming the cats while they heal so theywill start to trust humans again.
Good Mews is located in The Fountains at Olde Town shopping center just north of the intersection of Lower Roswell and Johnson Ferry Roads. The shelter occupies approximately 2,350 square feet. The combined maximum capacity is 100 cats. There is designated room with shelves and cat trees just for kittens. The main shelter is bright and inviting with numerous shelves, cat trees, beds, and even a t.v. and DVD player, which provides entertainment for the residents.

Big windows allow residents a birds-eye view of passer-bys and there is a living room area where potential adopters may spend one-on-one time with residents. We also have three special needs rooms where cats with special dietary or medical needs can reside comfortably apart from the general shelter population. In the back of the shelter, there is a kitchen area, an Intake Room with cages to observe new residents during the two week quarantine period, and an Isolation Room with cages where cats with contagious conditions are kept for treatment and observation.

Ashley and Zweena came from a very loving home, but their mother must go into an assisted living because she is very ill. She loved her kitties very much and took good care of them. She rescued them from a horrible hoarding situation and provided them with the loving home that they deserved. She wanted to make sure they found a new loving home, so she contacted us, in hopes that we could help her. We told her we would be more than happy to help her and her babies. We recently took in Sunshine and Ms. Smokey, who already found a wonderful home together!
Zweena is a darling girl that is a bit confused as to why she is at the shelter, but I think in time she will be OK. Her mom describes her as very playful and affectionate. I think once we start spending a lot of time with her she will start enjoying her time with us. But she is such a doll, I don’t think she will be with us long.
Once we learn more about Zweena, we will give updates!
